Storms

A few weeks back I got an alert on my phone that we were under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. I looked outside and saw a perfectly bright sunny sky. White fluffy clouds showed no sign of violence. When I checked the radar I found the menacing storm barreling down out of Missouri. This thing was barely into Arkansas and we were already being warned? As I watched the radar over the next hour, I was amazed at the speed and growing intensity with which this storm moved.

Early warning. Wouldn’t it be nice if life gave us more early warnings about incoming storms? From financial woes to relationship problems, the storms of life seem to be on us before we know it. Maybe we are missing the early warning signs because we are so distracted.

My favorite formula for loving others is this: Pay attention and be intentional. We are susceptible to being distracted in our high-tech world. With our faces buried in our phones, we miss LIFE happening all around us. Then we wonder why the storms blind-side us.

Pay attention to what really matters in this life. Be intentional in showing love to those around you. Beware of the distractions of this world. And may you be a shelter to others in the storm.

See you Sunday!
