Ingredients

I love to cook. I especially love to “make it up as I go” when I cook. For this reason, I am not a huge fan of baking. Cookies, cakes, and pie crust require a good recipe. Unfortunately, baking requires a certain amount of intuition as well. Atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity and the phase of the moon seem to affect the outcome of my baking efforts. But even if the stars and moon are aligned just right, my dish will fail if I leave out any important ingredient.

When I think about the time I left the vanilla out of the sugar cookies, I remember how shocked I was that it made such a difference in the taste. It was such a tiny amount of vanilla! But it made all the difference in the world.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

Paul told the church in Corinth that they were all necessary ingredients in church. God gave them each specific gifts and each gift was needed in order to be the Body of Christ in this world. This is still true today. All are needed. You make all the difference to the world.

See you Sunday!
