Wisdom

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
You probably believe that all good Christians pray. Maybe you hope nobody ever discovers how very little you pray. I’ve never met anyone who felt as though they pray too much. But why in the world should we do as the bible instructs and “pray without ceasing”? Here’s one reason out of many. Wisdom.

A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way. ~Mark Twain
We are such a proud and independent people that we often don’t realize that we are slamming through life by trial and error. We are fighting, ignoring, manipulating and strategizing our way through life’s dilemmas. Our only saving grace is that we try to be polite as we careen through this life. It’s ‘all good’ as long as we apologize to those who have the misfortune of getting in our way. Right?

Pride leads only to shame; it is wise to be humble. ~Proverbs 11:2
Learning to pray has been the biggest challenge on my faith journey. But, I’ve discovered a greater sense of balance and peace when I have wrestled my pride to the ground and let the Holy Spirit have a voice in my decision-making.

Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn.
~C.S. Lewis
We never stop learning. God has much to teach us about life, money, relationships, and ourselves. We can choose to listen to the One who loves us or continue to “carry that cat by the tail.” Wisdom is gained either way. It’s your choice.

See you Sunday!
