For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

We, as Presbyterians, are taught to believe in the power of grace for our salvation. But we can easily fall into the trap of believing that we must somehow earn our relationship with God. There is a difference between earning a relationship and responding to the gift of grace. Paul writes in Romans 5:8,

But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners,
Christ died for us.

Our eternal and beautiful relationship with God begins with and is initiated by God. So what do we do to respond to this powerful love we know as grace? We open ourselves up to the truth that God loves us. We begin a journey that leads to an abiding trust in that love. Our response is guided by the Holy Spirit. As we respond to God’s grace in faith, we are able to reflect Christ to those around us. May you continue on this life-long journey in response to God’s gift of grace.

See you Sunday!
