21st Century Communication

Therefore encourage one another and build up each other… I Thessalonians 5:11

Our ability to communicate has evolved at light speed! Or has it? We have the ability to throw information at one another anytime from anyplace… but have we lost something in the process?

When I was a kid, my family spent a lot of time around the kitchen table telling stories and just talking. There were no cellphones and only four TV stations to entertain us. If you sat out on your front porch you could expect someone to stop and chat with you for a few minutes… or hours. Do you remember those days? It makes me wonder if the art of communication has been washed away in this flood of technology. So what can we do about it?

God commands us to love one another. Agreed? Loving someone requires us to “pay attention and be intentional”. In this fast-pace, high-tech world we must find a way to connect with each other more intentionally. Turn off the TV, put down the phone and sit around the kitchen table and talk.  Ask a friend to lunch instead of just texting. Invite someone to sit on the porch and chat for a few minutes… or hours. Ask a child about her day… and listen. You won’t be disappointed.

See you Sunday!
