The Presence

Be still and know that I am God… (Psalm 46:10)

God has a name, but it is difficult to translate.  Even if we could get the translation down, our minds could never encompass the vastness of God’s Name.

“I AM”

The very name of the Creator invites us to live in a certain state of mind.  We think we go through our daily lives living in the present but in fact we spend a lot of time elsewhere. The temptation to dwell on the past or worry about the future is simply too strong. We know that we should walk our daily lives with Christ, but do we drag him with us as our thoughts hike back to past regrets or wander into the unknowable future?

I invite you to take inventory of your thoughts over the next few days. If regret, anxiety, guilt, fear or hopelessness have moved in and set up housekeeping in your brain then it’s time to do something about it. It’s time to start living in the present.  God is most fully experienced in the here and now.  Not to say that we should never look back or plan ahead.  There are valuable lessons to be learned from our past and decisions to be made about our future. But these places should only be visited with a God-focused heart.
Remember…Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, but today is a gift, that’s why it is called the Present.

See you Sunday!
