Pentecost

Pentecost Sunday is here! Break out the red its time to celebrate! Why the celebration? It’s our birthday! According to Acts, the church was born by the Holy Spirit during the Jewish festival of Passover.

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1-4)

They caused such a scene that bystanders accused them breaking out the red (wine) at 9:00am!

All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.” (Acts 2:12-13)

Jesus promised his disciples that he would send his Spirit to comfort and guide them. That Spirit dwells in us and among us today. When I first came to Cordova  Presbyterian, I was amazed by the strength of God’s Spirit in this church family. I still am and I am incredibly blessed to serve this congregation.

So this Sunday, I invite you to celebrate! I know Christ celebrates his church in this place. May you be empowered and comforted by the gift of God’s Spirit.

Wear your RED on Sunday!

Grace and Peace,
Missy
