Gifts

I love to cook but baking is just not my strong suite. When I was a kid learning to cook I loved to bake anything that came from a box.  But when I ventured out into the world of recipes, well, that was just a mess. I once tried to bake sugar cookies and left out the vanilla. Yuck!

Baking requires the correct ingredients, in the correct amount, added at the correct time and in the correct way. My chemist parents are excellent bakers. I did not inherit their intense attention to detail. I’ll just stick to my box mixes and we’ll all be happy.

When I think about the time I left the vanilla out of the sugar cookies, I remember how shocked I was that it made such a difference in the taste. It was such a tiny amount of vanilla! But it made all the difference in the world.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

Paul told the church in Corinth that they were all necessary ingredients in church. God gave them each specific gifts and each gift was needed in order to be the Body of Christ in this world. This is still true today. All are needed. It makes all the difference to the world.

See you Sunday!
