Faith Journey

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:26, 38-39

Paul’s letter to the Romans has always been a favorite among Christians throughout the history of the Church. Verses like these found in chapter 8 have built up and sustained the family of God for centuries. I picked these verses in particular because they give us hope, not in our own strength and endurance, but in God’s.

A ‘faith journey’ might sound like an inspirational lifestyle marked by long, peaceful, solitary walks on a beach at daybreak.  The reality is that people of faith experience ‘growing pains.’ Faith is often shaken by new challenges, traumatic events, and personal setbacks. We can be knocked sideways by, you know, life.

How does one’s faith grow through these struggles? We must remember that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Don’t struggle alone. You have the church to sustain you, scripture to guide you, and the Holy Spirit of God to pray for you. Paul was convinced that nothing on earth or in heaven could separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. The power of this relationship is found in Christ, not us.

May you be sustained by the love of God through all that life has to throw at you. And remember, you are not alone.

See you Sunday!
