Gray Hair

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life. (Proverbs 16:31)
Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old. (Job 12:12)

One of my favorite things to do to relax is playing video games. I know, I’m probably a little too mature in years to be playing Xbox but I’ve been playing games since Atari was all the craze. The only difference is that now I have to ask a kid when I can’t figure out the Xbox! Lots of things change with age.

If you know anything about restoring antiques or if you watch shows about antiques, you know that the patina gives the piece authenticity. Patina is the protective oxidized coating that develops with age. The Statue of Liberty is made of copper but is now green with patina. Amateurs will remove the patina in order to restore the original shine. Often this greatly decreases its value. Patina can actually be added to an object to give it that antique look. This process is often called distressing

We are all developing our own patina. That gray hair and those worry/laugh lines are well earned. Yes, age might leave us at a disadvantage in navigating the latest fad. But Wisdom belongs to the aged. Scripture records time and again how God enlists the aged to bring about his purposes. From Noah and Abraham to Sarah and Naomi, God continues today to work through those who posses the wisdom of age.

May we all honor the gray hairs of others, and seek their wisdom.
Now, I’m off to go play some Fortnite!

See you Sunday!
