Workout

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9

So I joined a gym a few years ago. The workout classes are lots of fun and the trainers are great people. I went 3 or 4 days a week for months. Then I got distracted. I got busy. I missed a class. Then another. That was 4 months ago. I haven’t been able to get back to my workout schedule! Ugh! Do you know the feeling? You have goals and commitments that just seem to slip through your fingers. It can be so frustrating.

Maybe you want to spend more quality time with your family? You feel guilty for missing church on Sunday mornings? Or you really need to write those thank you notes? We all have some obligation hanging over us that needs more attention. So what can we do about it? First of all cut yourself some slack. Guilt is a poor motivator for most of us. Shame rarely produces any positive results.

So here’s what I plan to do about my lapsed workout schedule. Forgive myself and get organized. I am putting my workouts on the calendar and telling a friend (and all of you) my goal. Feel free to hold me accountable. I invite you to do the same. Sit down with your busy schedule and get organized. Pray about what is important and make it a priority. Ask a friend to hold you accountable.

What in the world does this have to do with your spiritual journey? Everything. How we spend our time shapes us. Inviting Christ into the planning of our days could actually change the world.

See you Sunday!
