Gone Fishin’

I like to fish. But I don’t like taking my fish off the hook. Fear of being finned or bitten or slimed makes this my least favorite part of fishing. That’s why I completely understood the strange situation that swam by our pier one afternoon at Horseshoe Lake, AR a few years ago. An enormous Gar swam by dragging a very expensive looking fishing pole in its wake. We can all relate to the predicament of that poor fisherman.

Life sometimes can just be too much. We would rather throw our favorite fishing pole in the water than deal with the big, nasty, frightening ugly mess on the other end of the line. Life has a tendency to get a little messy. We seem to be minding our own business, enjoying a beautiful day when we hook some ridiculously difficult problem. What now?

Overwhelming problems are a part of life. We don’t ever have to face them alone. To take our troubles and fears to God requires us to humbly ask for help. It’s a good habit to adopt. Learn to trust God with your ‘everyday’ troubles. This builds a foundation of love and trust with the One who is strong enough to handle anything that might swim by.

See you Sunday!
