Daily Surrender
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
-Romans 12:1-2
A living sacrifice? In Paul’s letter to the church in Rome he completely reframes the meaning of sacrifice. The ritual killing of unblemished animals is no longer necessary for God’s people to reconcile themselves to God. By the mercies of God, we have been released from sin and death. Christ accomplished this work once and for all. The logical response to God’s grace is for us to present our lives, mind, body, and soul back to God.
The problem with a living sacrifice is that it can crawl off the alter. You may have to surrender your life fifty times a day. You must make it a daily habit.
–Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life
We all surrender our lives to something everyday. We daily surrender our time, our strength and our efforts in response to the world around us. I invite you to reimagine today. What would today look like if we surrendered it to God? What would God have you do with today?
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”
See you Sunday!
