It was all God

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.  (John 14:12)

"It's going to be all right, sweetie," she said. "I just want you to know I love you, though, OK?... We all go through something in life...You going to be OK." -Antoinette Tuff, August 20, 2013

She could have run. By all rights she should have run. But she didn’t. As Michael Brandon Hill, a mentally disturbed 20-year-old man stood before her with an AK 47 and over 500 rounds of ammo, Antoinette made a choice. Because she stood firm and spoke lovingly to Michael, he made a choice. He had come to Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy with the intent of shooting and killing everyone he could. Instead, he chose to lay down his weapon and surrender. When an Atlanta reporter called her a hero, Antoinette responded, "It was all God. I was just praying."

We all had the opportunity to witness a miracle in the interaction between Antoinette and Michael Brandon Hill. After hearing the 911 tape of this conversation, I have no doubt that the Holy Spirit was speaking through this woman. Offering love, acceptance, forgiveness and hope to Michael at that critical moment.

What would this world be like if we all simply allowed Christ to speak through us? Imagine speaking words of hope to the hopeless, words of acceptance to the forgotten, words of healing to the broken-hearted. Just imagine that! That’s the stuff of miracles.

See you Sunday!
