Stewards of God’s Gift
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness! Matthew 25:21
We all have a desire to one day hear our Lord say these words to us. But what must we do in order to be a good and faithful servant? Our salvation is not something we can earn through good deeds. Salvation is a gift from God in Christ alone. We need only accept the gift.
When we accept the forgiveness and wholeness offered by Christ, we submit ourselves to God’s service. What does it mean to orient your entire life to being God’s faithful servant?
The first step is to understand that you own nothing. You are a steward of everything in your domain. Your money, property, family, time, health, education, food, water, shelter…everything is a gift from God. And it is all to be put into service for God’s purposes.
Take a moment to re-imagine your life from this perspective.
Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.
