Advent

It’s here! It’s here! Advent is finally here! Thanksgiving has come and gone and for some of us the tree is already up! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Now we are scrambling get the shopping done, wrap gifts, plan trips, bake cookies…the checklist is growing as fast as we can mark it off! Is there anything we are forgetting? (I know, that’s a pretty ominous question coming from your pastor.)

It’s easy this time of year to be so “Christmas busy” that by Christmas afternoon we are about ready to torch the tree, toss the leftovers in the trash and go take a nap until New Years Day! Let’s make a pact now that we will take it easy on ourselves this year.

Give yourself the gift of time this Advent season. Spend a few minutes in the morning with your coffee or in the evening before bed in silent prayer. Shut yourself away from the world for just a moment, light a candle if you want, read an advent devotional or scripture. Do whatever it takes to get alone, get quiet and listen.

I could give you a hundred reasons why you should intentionally carve out a bit of your day for silent prayer and meditation, but nothing I could say compares to experiencing the miracle for yourself. May you experience the Hope, Peace, Joy and Love of Christ this Advent season.

See you Sunday!
