Thanksgiving

If you don’t like turkey or have a mistrust of pumpkin pie this might not be your favorite holiday. Thanksgiving brings a lot of expectations for us. Not only do you have to deal with raw poultry the size of a small wildebeest, but you also must prepare a huge feast, clean the house for guests, and make it all seem effortless. Or you spend this week packing, travelling, eating and travelling again. This season can be exhausting. In the midst of the commotion, giving thanks can be a bit of an afterthought.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. -Philippians 4:6

Thanksgiving is a season that should be celebrated year round. I don’t mean the ‘monstrous bird thawing in the sink’ kind of celebration. I’m referring to an attitude of the heart. Instead of giving thanks out of a sense of obligation or tradition, I invite you to take a moment of silent prayer. Offer your thanks and your anxieties, your gratitude and your worries, your love and your exhaustion to God. Let this be a new beginning for you. May this Thanksgiving bring peace and joy to you and your family.

See you Sunday!
