Romans 12:1
appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1)
A life of faith in Christ is no cakewalk. Completely surrendering your life to God has certain ‘side effects’. Faith wars with doubt and hope battles fear. This is no easy life to be sure. But in this journey of complete surrender, we see miracles. We catch glimpses of heaven on earth and know that God is with us.
When you surrender to God’s will, you get to experience God’s work in this world first hand. You aren’t on the front row watching the miracles play out. No, you are on stage! God uses your hands to heal, your words to comfort, and your feet to carry the Good News to those who need it the most. Whether you work with your hands or from behind a desk, God wants to work through you. When a student, a client, an employee or a child looks into your eyes or hears your words, let them see Christ first and foremost.
But I give you this warning. While this type of life will bring you spiritual riches beyond your wildest dreams, it will also drain you if you insist on running under your own steam. This work is bigger than you. This is why we worship together as a congregation. We offer up our thanks and our burdens to God. We support one another and lift each other up. We sing the hymns that refresh our souls. We are comforted and challenged by God’s Word. We bring our sacrifice before the Living God. We offer up ourselves. This is our spiritual worship.
See You Sunday!
