Ash Wednesday

“Remember that thou art dust and to dust thou shalt return.” –Genesis 3:19

Tonight, we’ll have our Ash Wednesday Service. It’s a very solemn service of repentance, which marks the beginning of Lent. Most of us don’t relish the idea of confessing or repenting of our sin. But there is no chance for healing, wholeness, or peace without confession. As sinners in a sinful world, we are in constant need of healing.

…the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.’ From that time Jesus began to proclaim, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’  -Matthew 4:16-18

Today is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent. For 40 days we are invited into this ancient season of Fasting, Praying and Giving. Spend today asking God how you should participate in Lent this year. How will you fast? When will you pray? What will you give?

We will commemorate the beginning of this holy season with the imposition of ashes tonight. Remember daylight savings time begins this Sunday! The Light is coming!

See you tonight!
