Spiritual Journey

As many of you know, I absolutely love to sail!  Whether it’s a little Hobie Cat or a 50-foot yacht, I am thrilled to be part of the crew. There’s something about catching the wind just right and racing across the water.  I love to adjust the sail and rudder bit by bit to catch the full force of the wind in the sails.  There’s a discipline to sailing.  Like many things in life, sailing requires diligence and patience.  The captain has full control over the boat yet absolutely no control over the wind. The relationship between the sail, the captain, and the wind can result in a beautifully thrilling experience.

If you are in a hurry to get across the water, your best bet is a speedboat.  Sailing is about the journey as much as the destination.  That’s the way I like to think of my spiritual journey.  The destination is secure in my Savior.  The journey is powered by the Holy Spirit and takes diligence and patience on my part.  I have control over my free will yet absolutely no control over the Holy Spirit.  Jesus explains it this way.

"So don't be so surprised when I tell you that you have to be 'born from above'—out of this world, so to speak. You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you have no idea where it comes from or where it's headed next. That's the way it is with everyone 'born from above' by the wind of God, the Spirit of God."  John 3:7-8

May your spiritual journey be one of diligence and patience.  The “Breath of God” is power enough for the adventure.

See you Sunday!
