Easter

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” -Matt 26:39

Suffering is a simple and undeniable fact of life. We react to our suffering in different ways. Our Lord Jesus, being fully God and fully human gives us a glimpse of his own suffering in the garden of Gethsemane. By his divinity he knows the suffering that awaits him; by his humanity he is horrified. He has the power as the Son of God to call down Angel Armies and crush the enemy outright. He could simply leave. Turn his back on his purpose and walk away. How does he handle the terror and grief? He goes to a place of solitude and prays to his Father in heaven.

Prayer is a powerful and precious gift. God entrusts each of us with a purpose in this world. There will never be another you born into this world. You are here in this time, in this place for a purpose. Through prayer we better understand what our Lord expects of us. Through prayer we are given the courage to live out that purpose. We are encouraged and comforted by our Father in heaven as we seek to do his will.

Jesus sets the example for us in the garden. In our time of suffering and terror we are invited to cry out. Through prayer we are empowered to fulfill our purpose in this life. Jesus found the strength and courage to face Death and defeat Darkness once and for all. With that assurance, may we take our fears to God in prayer each day. And may God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

See you Easter Sunday!
