Lord of the Dance

O.K. It’s HOT. I’ve lived in the South my entire life, but this year seems to be just crazy hot! Maybe I’m just getting older and less tolerant of the oppressive heat and humidity. Who knows? All I know is this… I am ready for Fall! Football games, cookouts, bonfires, cool breezes, no more sweat, no more mosquitos. Ah… Won’t it be nice! I guess when one season gets to be intolerable, we find our hope in the season to come. Life is a little like that as well.

Maybe that’s why God gave us the seasons. A natural, predictable rhythm to our lives. Each season brings its own personality of blessings and curses. With the cool weather we must endure longer nights and rainy days. No season is perfect. (Spring is nice but only lasts about 4 ½ days around here.) The seasons of our lives are much the same way. Each one bringing its own blessings and “curses”. And so we pine for years gone by and hope for better days to come. I think God can teach us a bit about this, “grass is always greener”, mentality if we pay attention to the rhythm of the seasons.

There is a built-in rhythm to God’s creation. The sun rises, the sun sets. The moon waxes and wanes. The tide ebbs and flows. We are born and enter into this rhythm whether we realize it or not.  So, if you are in a season of your life that seems to bring more curse than blessing, remember the bigger picture. God has not abandoned you. You are simply in the rhythm of life. God knows how to dance to this rhythm and is inviting you to join in.  And as we say in the South, “If you don’t like the weather just wait a minute…” In the meantime, get out there and dance!

See you Sunday!
