Cries
O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! Habakkuk 1:2
Have you ever felt forgotten by God?
You are not alone. God’s people have been crying out for God’s recue since the beginning. The Bible even has a book, Lamentations, dedicated to such cries. In times like this, it can be difficult to keep the hope alive. We grow angry and mistrustful of God’s promises. We wonder if our faith is strong enough for this. We wonder if it’s o.k. to be angry with God. We wonder if God even hears our cries. The answer is yes.
We sometimes fall prey to the notion that our suffering signifies God’s lack of care. Quite the opposite is true however. God is nearest when we cry out. What parent would walk away from a child in distress? We are actually most distant from God when we carelessly forget God in our contentment. In this season of Lent, we are invited to walk through the valley of our own dark places. But God promises to walk with us. And in doing so, God will guide us from darkness to light.
See you Sunday!
