Hitting the Reset Button

Have you ever had your computer completely lock up on you? You’re working on something (usually important and on a deadline) when the computer simply stops responding. It crashes. You tap the keys and slap the poor mouse yet nothing happens. Now what? If all else fails you’ll have to turn off the computer, count to 30, pray a fervent prayer and turn the computer back on. We’ve all been there. This usually happens to me when I’ve neglected my computer’s updates or tried to do too much with too many programs at the same time. Our lives can become just as overwhelmed.

When was the last time you ‘hit the reset button’ on your life? Have you stopped and evaluated your daily routine lately? What are your priorities and goals? Do they match your behavior? Where do you spend the most time and money? Do you feel like you are living a life filled with God’s purpose or just going through the motions?

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30

It’s a healthy thing to ‘hit reset’ every so often. How? Much like a computer. First step is to STOP. Take a day to do nothing. Get away if you need to, but step out of the daily routine. Next step is to PRAY. What is God’s purpose for your life right here, right now? What does God want you to focus on every day? What would your life look like if you made those adjustments? Final step is to TRUST. It takes intentional effort to keep handing our lives back over to Christ. But it’s the only way I know to keep us from crashing.

See you Sunday!
