God is Present
Sometimes we feel as if there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get it all done. We make our lists, plan the day, put on our shoes and hit the ground running. Then life happens. The plan is disrupted, the list is abandoned and the day seems like a bit of a waste. But was it really wasted?
The human mind plans the way,
but the Lord directs the steps. Proverbs 16:9
‘Get it done’ is a seductive mantra. I’m all about getting things done and being efficient and productive, but there’s a risk to this mentality. Life is more than achieving goals. There is something to be said for the journey itself.
Our days are filled with opportunities to be truly present for others. If you get to the end of your day and look despairingly at an unfinished To-Do list, I invite you to look back on the day. Did God put people in your path that needed you? Maybe you rested… because you needed rest.
God is present in our everyday busy-ness. We are responsible for planning our day and doing what God needs us to do each day. May we be willing to allow God to meet us on the journey and direct our steps to his purposes. Especially if it wasn’t on the list.
See you Sunday!
