Transfiguration

Do you have faith? Tough question. The dangerous response to this question is complacency. Webster defines complacency as, self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies. Faith differs from belief in one critical way. To believe is to simply agree that God exists. To have faith is to turn your thoughts, attitudes and actions over to that God. This is no one-time event. It is the journey of a lifetime.

If we have become complacent in our faith it is evident in our thoughts, words, and actions. We become spiritually self-reliant. We see no reason to give God control over our lives on a daily basis. Our lives, however, become difficult and filled with worry and frustration. We find little foundation for hope or wholeness. Some say we become ‘lost’. So how do we ‘do’ faith?

We are entering the season of Lent next Wednesday. This season is built into the church calendar to give us all an opportunity to become less self-satisfied with the status quo. It’s a season of prayer, a season of fasting, a season of reflection. We all need to hit the reset button on our spiritual lives from time to time. This is our time. Don’t let it slip away. What will you gain from a stronger faith?

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

See you Sunday!
