Stillness

A pilgrim looked at the reflection of a mountain in still water.
It was the reflection that first caught his attention.
But presently he raised his eyes to the mountain.
Reflect me, said his Father to him, and then others will look at you.
Then they will look up, and see me.
Remember, the stiller the water the more perfect the reflection.

Stillness. It seems as though this should not be a difficult state to achieve. But think about it. How often do you manage to still yourself mind, body and spirit (while remaining awake)? Watching television is my substitute for ‘being still’. But that stillness is just an illusion. Truly being still is something we are meant to do. We are built for this. It’s only when we quiet our minds and turn off the TV that we can be free. Yes, free.

I could go on and on about why you should take a few minutes every day to get quiet, be still, pray and listen. But what you will find in these moments I have no words to describe. This scripture says it best, “Be still, and know that I am God…” My prayer for you is that you will find the time and the courage to ‘be still’ and allow God to speak.

Peace,
Missy
