Favorite Scripture

Last week I was asked by a friend to send her my favorite bible verse along with a short explanation of why it’s my favorite. Her plan was to collect these favorite verses from people who are important to her granddaughter. She was planning to compile them into a scrapbook as a graduation present for Beth. I’ve been Beth’s church camp counselor since she was in the forth grade and I was honored to do this. However, I did find it difficult to narrow down my favorite scripture. I finally settled on one of my favorites. I thought it would be a good one for someone about to head off to college. Here’s what I wrote:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Dear Beth,

When I joined the church 13 years ago I was basically unchurched. I dove into my faith journey with everything I had. This scripture gave me the courage and the confidence to follow God and give my life completely over to Christ. All along my walk with Jesus I have turned to this scripture to remind me that God has my back and is always in my future. So if you ever get nervous about the future, remember God's promise to Jeremiah…

If you are about to head off to college, this scripture can be very comforting. Actually God’s promise to Jeremiah is for us all. We have a choice to make each day. Will we follow God’s plan for us this day? I invite you to take a moment, take a breath and reflect on God’s plan for you today. It’s a good habit to start.

See you Sunday,
Missy
