What’s in a Name?

I came across a bit of trivia that has had me chuckling for days. What is the name for a group of baboons? A ‘congress’. No joke! Look it up. (Yes, we could call them a ‘troop’ but that’s not nearly as funny.) This discovery sparked a hunt for more funny animal group names. So here are some words of wisdom… When you leave your house beware of coming across a smack of jellyfish or a band of coyotes. If you’re lucky you may see a parliament of owls or ostentation of peacocks. And if you come across a confusion of guinea fowl or a congregation of alligators let me know!

In my search I noticed that many groups had a variety of names from which to choose. You can refer to them as a murder of crows if you wish but I prefer a storytelling of crows. You have a choice between a nuisance of cats and glorying of cats. Now this last one got me to thinking. I can categorize most of my friends by their love or dislike of cats. You can walk up to just about anyone on the street and say ‘I love cats’ and immediately know from their expression how they feel about the species. So, humanity is divided into these two groups. With that in mind, where do church folks fall in this?

We are in the middle of the Bible Belt and most folks here would define themselves as Christians. But being part of the group called church folk is entirely different. It has to do with what a person has experienced or perceived from this group as to whether they long to be a part of it. I’ve been a Christian all my life, but I’ve only been part of the church folk for about 20 years. What got me here? A whole lot of patience and persistence on their part for one but also their desire to make the world a better place. I was drawn in by their authentic love of God and their desire to glorify God in service to others. My view of these ‘cats’ was forever transformed.

I am thankful to be part of this loving group of church folk!

See you Sunday!
