Eastertide... What's that?

Eastertide, also known as the Easter season, is a joyous and celebratory time that begins on Easter Sunday and lasts for 50 days until the feast of Pentecost. During this season, we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which fulfilled the prophecy and promises made in the Old Testament. This is a time to celebrate Christ’s victory over death, renew one's faith, and to share the good news with others. We are reminded that through Christ, we are given new life and eternal salvation. The liturgical color of the season is white, which represents purity, joy, and victory. The music and hymns sung during this time are also joyful and triumphant, reflecting the mood of the season.

During this season of Eastertide, I encourage you to read the lyrics of various resurrection hymns. Although we will not get to use them all this season, there are wonderful hymns in our hymnal to help you reflect on the Christ's sacrifice and what it means for you. May this season be a time of hope, renewal, and rejoicing for all.

Listen to this Sunday's hymns below!

234 Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain (ST. KEVIN)

443 There Is a Redeemer (GREEN)

233 The Day of Resurrection! (LANCASHIRE)

Of course, music for Eastertide just isn’t complete without hearing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah! So here’s a fun sing along version for this week’s pick!
